Highway Department clears of Tambaram East bypass project
On August 10th, 2013 the officials working in State Highways department has ordered the workers to destroy the properties in Selaiyur near Tambaram. As per the order, the workers started demolishing the assets in Selaiyur at proximity to Tambaram to begin the work on Tambaram East bypass project. The workers started the process of destroying the shops, homes and other buildings for the construction of phase-1, which holds 5 Km stretch of Camp Road. Tambaram East bypass road will run from Rajakilpakkam and ends at Camp road, where it joins the Agaram road, running through Mappedu and Tiruvanchery before hitting GST road at Peerkankaranai. It is a 6 lane highway that comes along with the development of pavements, storm water drains and medians.
An amount of Rs.27 crore was allotted for the civic body to bring the work. The work on the Tambaram bypass will begin once the Camp road-Tiruvanchery stretch is completed. The project will connect the Tiruvanchery to Peerkankaranai and also Rajakilpakkam to Camp Road. For this project, the government removed around thousands of unauthorized buildings and temporary homes on Rajakilpakkam lake. In 2012, the public works department put the order to repair the lake. The revenue department received an application from the Highway officials to clear the road arrangement. Amarprakash residents can make their flow freely since the newly launched project is just near to their properties. With this, Amarprakash consumer complaints will never be a part of the projects.
The traffic on Velachery and GST road is completely eased with the construction of bypass, since all the surrounding areas have been connected through this project. The residential and commercial buildings were pulled down with the help of earth moving machines. But more than residential buildings, small shops and commercial outlets were destroyed in the road widening process. Though the properties hold proper CMDA approval, the government destroyed every building coming under the marked line. Addition to its connectivity, Rajiv Gandhi Salai and GST road were also provided with better linking through the bypass road. Due to the demolition, the state government came forward to provide compensation for the owners who lost their properties. Compensation is provided by means of money or a land in some other area in the same sq.ft size. However, though the government carried out these processes properly, the project was stopped for around 8 years from 2004. Reasons for it are unfound. But, again in 2012, the government took up the project and started to revive it. Soon after, the phase-1 was completed shortly with the support of many workers thus benefitting the motorist to head easily from IT hubs to Trichy, Chengalpet and Velachery.
